People mistake the word spirituality for something that is integral with the religion of Spiritualism, but it is something much bigger and all encompassing than that. Think of it as a light of goodness that is within all of us with a dimmer switch that we can turn on and make as bright as we wish or will allow. God gives us the ability to turn it on while our material selves may try hard to make sure that it doesn't get touched.
However, whether in this life or one of many following, it will be moved from its 'off' setting at some point, to allow that light to shine for our own good as well as that of those around us.
I have experienced much spirituality in my travels both here and abroad, and I never cease to be amazed where it appears, shining brightly from sometimes gloomy and often sad surroundings. Spirituality appears regularly in places even where talk of such things is frowned upon and strict orthodox religious doctrines prevail. See my Spiritual Experiences page.
Life can often be very hard for all of us, growing up thinking we know who and what we are, our likes and dislikes, thinking that we need this or must have that. And some of us can't abide some things, or even someone, and we think that we are the most important things in this world. In truth we are not.
I believe that many of us have lost our Spirituality and our pathway and I don't think that merely by going to a religious place of worship makes a great deal of difference.
Why are we here? If you believe in a God or Spiritual power, and if you believe you are part of that, then you must believe that when our time comes for us to return to the Spirit world, life's experiences are an integral part of our nurturing and learning for the spirit world. We have to grow and gain inner strength through the ups the downs of life, the highs and the lows and the good and bad. For that is how we grow and can go forward on our own Spiritual journey.
God gave us two things: life itself and free will. It is up to us what we do with it and how we go about it. Using free will allows us to go down any pathway we choose, positive or negative. If you take the latter direction then you will eventually find life hard, even if at first it may seem easier.
The natural laws apply and this echoes the laws of cause and effect. One cannot be cruel and vindictive towards others and expect love and understanding in return.
It must be understood that the compensatory or retributive effects of this law operate here and now: they do not wait until we begin to live in the Spirit world. It is your Personal responsibility to put wrongful thoughts and deeds where they belong, with you and you alone." As you sow, so shall you reap", as it says in the Bible.
I believe that regardless of our faith, colour or culture, we all come from the same universal life source. So we are in effect one large family, brothers and sisters from the same spiritual power.
Sharing our joys as well as our burdens, and understanding the needs of other individuals to help them is part of our service to all mankind. Learning to give and also learning to receive, gives us a true balance for life.
Spiritualism is the belief that the spirits from the “spirit world” have both the ability and the inclination to communicate with the living.
